Treatment of snoring

Do you feel tired and washed-out during the day? Do you feel that you are less able to concentrate than before?

The problem of snoring is frequently a reason for such problems. If you are a night-time snorer, we can, in collaboration with an ENT specialist colleague, offer you some therapeutic help. As dentists, in chronic cases (snoring with long interruptions of the patient’s breathing) we are unfortunately unable to offer a remedy. A further problem is pronounced “gnashing” of the teeth, in which patients grind or press the upper and lower teeth together while asleep.

We can often help patients suffering only from a milder form of grinding by making a special device which, when fitted, moves the lower jaw further forward. Such a device not only moves the lower jaw forward, but also moves the muscles of the tongue and pharynx further forward, thus ensuring that the airways remain open during sleep. Wearing such a device takes a bit of getting used to (usually 2- 3 weeks), but many patients who have persevered with wearing one have then experienced a marked improvement.
