Problems with the joints of jaws

Are you aware that an incorrect bite or nocturnal grinding or pressing together of teeth can result in neck, shoulder or back pain?

Have you ever noticed clicking or friction in your jaw articulation? Have you ever experienced toothache on getting up in the morning or unexplained tension-like headaches?

Maybe you are in the same situation as an estimated 20 million Germans who suffer from a so-called cranio-mandibular dysfunction (muscular-skeletal complaints during mastication). We can provide help! It has even been shown that chronic cases can lead to slipped discs in the lower spine! For this reason, we think that this is something which cannot be easily ignored. We do not ignore it and in difficult cases work together with a network of specialists which includes orthopaedists, physiotherapists and osteopaths. The fact is that complicated disorders require interdisciplinary collaboration between different specialists and cannot be treated by a single specialist in one particular medical field.

In particularly challenging situations, for example, the diagnosis is made by a specially trained orthopaedist. Correct re-positioning of the jaw, muscles and tendons is then the task of the physiotherapist and osteopath. The bite is then fixed by the dentist by fitting a plastic appliance (called a splint) to the teeth and tested for a certain period. Subsequently, the new bite can be permanently modified using fillings or crowns, thus providing an effective treatment for back problems of this kind.
